Geoff Power’s Great Gatsby Orchestra
2015-2019
Playing primarily hot-jazz and early swing from the 1920’s and early 1930’s, Geoff Powers Great Gatsby Orchestra is a traditonal jazz band of 4 brass, three reeds, and a rhythm section of piano, banjo, sousaphone and drums.
Joining the group in 2015, the group has played throughout the greater Sydney area playing, released a debut record ‘Jubilee Stomp’ and built a following as a group pushing traditional jazz.
The New Young Northside Big Band
2013-2019
The New Young Northside Big Band is 13 piece Big Band based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. This group plays traditional big band jazz as well as modern arrangements, drawing on the library of the ‘Young Northside Big Band’ founded by Manly Jazz Festival Founder John Speight in the 1970’s. The Band has played at Jazz Festivals across Sydney and the east cost of New South Wales.
During his time in the group, Michael was both a vocalist & guitarist, frequently featuring as a soloist.
Doll Holiday
2017-2018
Michael worked with Doll Holiday from 2017-2018, as a guitarist and backing vocalist. Fusing post-punk song writing with intricate guitar writing, and the high octane drumming of Mike Bentley (Foshe), Doll Holiday played across Greater-Sydney’s punk-hardcore and D.I.Y music scene, supporting the acts such as Vacations, Carb on Carb, Okin Osan, Helena Pop, and many others.
